The Annual CNU Congress Returns to Providence

Providence and UNION prepare to welcome designers, planners, builders, developers, and elected officials this June for CNU 33!

Examining the Resilience of a Region

Since the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) held its 14th annual conference (CNU 14) in Providence in 2006, the city has made meaningful progress on many fronts. Now is an ideal time for dedicated urbanists, designers, and community leaders to reconnect and reflect on the city’s achievements and discuss ongoing challenges.

This year’s Congress will focus on regional resilience, examining how New England serves as a valuable case study for regional connectivity, collaboration, and coherence. CNU 33 will investigate how different regions develop unique approaches to problem-solving, recognizing that state legislation and local regulations fundamentally shape how we plan, develop, preserve, and manage our built environments in the face of environmental challenges. The collective goal of this year’s Congress is to deepen understanding of these crucial elements that underpin successful, climate-resilient urban fabric.
