Our staff members are all committed students of the accumulated wisdom of history as it is expressed in traditional architecture and urban design. Our passion for building strong communities starts here in our studio, among our friends and colleagues.
Paul has over 19 years of experience in architectural practice. Since joining Union Studio as one of the firm’s first employees in 2002, he has been the Project Architect for many of the firm’s affordable housing projects.
After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in architecture, Paul began his career at Architects Santa Fe in New Mexico where he was a Project Manager for a number of high-end residences, and collaborated on multiple community buildings including schools and a retreat center. During his time in New Mexico Paul discovered his passion for sustainable design. He later returned to Rhode Island and earned additional experience designing adaptive reuse and affordable housing projects. Paul’s easygoing, competent nature makes him a natural team leader. In recognition of his experience and dedication, Paul was named Senior Associate in 2008. He is an active member of the Congress for the New Urbanism, President of the Boston Estonian Society, and serves as the Vice-Chair of the Zoning Board of Review in Warren, RI. Paul holds a professional license in Rhode Island.
Hometown: Dover, Massachusetts
Non-Philosophical idol: Buckminster Fuller
Guilty Pleasure: French fries, potato chips and ‘Foie Gras Cromesquis’
Source of Pride: My Estonian heritage and fluency of the language
Favorite RI oddity (person, place, thing or “ism”): Robert Healey, founder of the Cool Moose Party. His platform during two consecutive campaigns for Lt. Governor was based solely on his intent to win the campaign and then abolish the position.
A word to the wise: When you try to save time, you lose time.
