Peter Bontempo

Designer

Thoughtful, intentional, and motivated. Inspired by and dedicated to serving communities through design.

Peter brings over a decade of architectural design experience, education and research to the Union team. Paired with a vast technical knowledge and software proficiency, he is passionate about designing and defending good architecture while simultaneously bringing those ideals into reality. He is inspired by the history and community around his projects and believes that good architecture and design should positively serve the people who live, work, and grow there.

Peter grew up in one of New Jersey’s historic shore towns, where he developed an early fascination with the architectural character and longevity of well-designed places. That passion led him to the University of Notre Dame, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and cultivated a love for traditional and vernacular design. After graduation, he spent 6.5 years at a planning and architecture firm in Washington, D.C., gaining wide-ranging project experience and a deeper understanding of how places evolve. He then spent 1.5 years exploring towns and cities across the United States, studying their architecture and often collaborating directly with local groups to share design insights and ideas.

When he’s not in the office, Peter is usually out walking the streets of Providence, capturing the details and urban moments that inspire him with camera or sketchbook in hand, and is always on the lookout for a great sandwich. As an Eagle Scout, he also enjoys spending time outdoors and reconnecting with nature whenever he can.
