Sigma Chi Fraternity

Kingston, Rhode Island
Date 2014
Size 12,000 SF
Cost $2.5M
Client University Alumni Corporation

Stressing their mission to develop character and leadership, the Sigma Chi Alumni Corporation at the University of Rhode Island commissioned Union to design a new home for the fraternity. The use of the Greek Revival style appropriately reflects the fraternity’s origins as well as its ethos of civic contribution.

The new three-story structure is home to 40 students. The second and third floors provide student bedrooms and cozy common sitting areas, as well as a library, social room, and apartment for the resident House Mother. On the first floor, the dining room and adjacent charter room are connected by large glass doors to a central, west-facing terrace creating an ideal setting for indoor and outdoor community gatherings.
