A robust 1986 masterplan finally moves forward.
Designed from the beginning as a traditional neighborhood development, the original, 60.7 acre masterplan for Mashpee Commons included the creation of 382 housing units. And in accordance with the state’s Chapter 40B affordable housing laws, 25% of those units would be deed restricted to 80% AMI.
Union is currently working on Phase 1 of the residential plan which comprises 123 rental dwelling units in 24 buildings on approximately 8.0 acres. The buildings consist of 2 or 2.5 story walk-up style flats or 2-story townhomes. Designed to be consistent with the existing look and feel of the famed downtown Mashpee Commons shopping village (which is only blocks away), the buildings are rendered in the character of Cape Cod’s quaint villages and are nestled around small greens and common spaces.
This new housing will address and offer solutions for several of the housing issues currently impacting this community. It promises to help alleviate a historically low inventory of available housing stock, provide housing options for the region’s workforce, offer downsizing alternatives for existing homeowners, and create much needed affordable and attainable housing.
