Capitol Square is a mixed-use development in the Smith Hill neighborhood of Providence, Rhode Island. Designed to be a gateway to this historic neighborhood, these two buildings created much-needed affordable housing and economic opportunity to support the neighborhood’s ongoing revitalization.

Strategically sited on formerly vacant city land along a major city arterial, the two buildings consist of 13 mixed-income residential units above retail and commercial space. Between the buildings, a terraced plaza leads to recreational open space and parking at the rear of the site. The architecture is civic in character and scale but takes cues from nearby residential forms allowing for a strong street frontage that knits into the surrounding neighborhood.
