Traditional Building Magazine’s June 2026 issue features our team’s  reconstruction of the Veranda House on Nantucket. After a 2022 fire completely destroyed an iconic, historic building in the heart of Nantucket, Union was entrusted with leading the architectural design of its restoration. This beloved boutique hotel, renowned for its distinctive wraparound porches and historic charm since the 1860s, has been thoughtfully rebuilt to honor its storied past while ensuring its future.

Every exterior element—from window construction to visible timber framing—required approval from the Historic District Commission. The work proceeded with careful documentation, grounded in what remained and what historical records showed. The building was reconstructed in record time, balancing the 19th-century character with the requirements of modern code.

We are grateful to have played a role in preserving this cherished piece of Nantucket’s identity. Thank you to Traditional Building for featuring this project. It’s a story of thoughtful design, community resilience, and a beloved landmark given another chance—ready to welcome new generations.
