A look at a few projects currently in development at Union.

Steeple & Stone

Cumberland, Rhode Island

The former St. Patrick Church at 305 Broad Street in Cumberland is being preserved and adapted for new affordable housing. The project will create 44 apartments within the historic church building, along with nine new townhomes along Broad Street.

The apartments will include one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, with several designed to meet ADA standards. All homes will be affordable to households earning up to 60 percent of the area median income. Ten apartments will be reserved for residents age 62 and older to support aging in place. A partnership with the PACE Organization of Rhode Island will provide on-site social services for residents.

Henlopen Bluff Community Building

Lewes, Delaware

The Henlopen Bluff Community Building is part of the larger Henlopen Bluff Community planned along the Lewes–Rehoboth Canal in Lewes, Delaware. The building supports a waterfront residential development that includes a community marina and shared outdoor spaces.

The community building provides indoor gathering space for residents, with direct access to outdoor seating and landscaped areas. Its location helps connect the neighborhood to the canal and nearby open space, supporting daily use and community activity. The building is included in the development currently under review through the Delaware Coastal Management Program.

Affordable Housing

Chatham, Massachusetts

A proposed affordable housing project would add new apartments, shared amenities, and outdoor space on underused town-owned land. The plan focuses on replacing vacant or deteriorated sites with housing that supports long-term community needs.

The proposal includes new affordable apartments, management offices, and outdoor amenities, with landscaping designed to improve the surrounding area. One site would create a new neighborhood in an existing commercial area, while another would place housing next to open space and a popular rail trail. Together, the sites would help expand access to affordable rental housing while making better use of publicly owned land.
