Pocasset Manor Groundbreaking

Union joined POAH, RIHousing, and Senator Jack Reed to kick off the renovation of Pocasset Manor in Providence.

Last week, Union joined residents, city officials, and development partners to celebrate the groundbreaking for the renovation of Pocasset Manor, a senior affordable housing community located in Providence’s Silver Lake neighborhood.

Originally built in the 1980s, Pocasset Manor provides 82 homes for older adults in a walkable neighborhood near recreation, transit, and local amenities. The renovation will upgrade both individual apartments and common spaces, with a focus on improving livability, comfort, and energy efficiency while maintaining long-term affordability for residents.

Union worked closely with POAH, the property’s owner, to develop a thoughtful renovation scope that enhances quality of life and supports long-term sustainability goals. The design process emphasized collaboration—with residents, with construction partners, and with state and federal housing agencies—to make the most of every opportunity to improve and preserve this critical community asset.

Speakers at the event, including Congressman Seth Magaziner and Mayor Brett Smiley, spoke to the importance of maintaining and modernizing existing housing. But the most memorable remarks came from longtime Pocasset Manor resident Maria Rodriguez, who said simply:

“It’s a safe and clean place already. But now it’s getting even better—for all of us.”

Construction is now underway. We’re proud to be a part of the team helping bring new life to Pocasset Manor—and we look forward to celebrating with the community again at the ribbon cutting.
