Welcome Sulem Hernandez, our 2025 United in Design Scholar!

Sulem joins us for a summer of sustainable design.

“The built environment is deeply tied to identity, access, and equity, and my goal as a designer is to create spaces that challenge exclusion and uplift underrepresented communities. I am committed to ensuring that architecture reflects the diversity of those who inhabit it.”

Sulem Herhnandez, 2025 United in Design Scholarship recipient

We’re thrilled to welcome Sulem Hernandez as our 2025 United in Design scholarship recipient! Born and raised in Bakersfield, CA, Sulem brings a passion for design that’s rooted in community, equity, and representation.

After earning her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from UC Berkeley, she continued her academic journey at the University of Southern California, where she’s currently pursuing her Master of Architecture. She enters her final year this fall and will graduate in May 2026.

Sulem’s powerful perspective challenges systems of exclusion and celebrates the richness of underrepresented voices in the built environment. Her vision for inclusive design perfectly aligns with our mission, and we’re excited to see the impact she’ll make during her time with us.
