Construction About to Begin at Center City Apartments

Selective demolition marks the beginning of construction for a new affordable housing community on Taunton Avenue.

Selective demolition is underway at 350 Taunton Ave, signaling the start of the transformative Center City Apartments project. Driven by the Taunton Avenue Collaborative—a unique and inspired partnership of four non-profit housing and social service agencies—the initiative will revitalize three contiguous, previously vacant and blighted properties in a busy commercial district into 160 affordable apartments with plentiful services and amenities.

Union is leading master planning and architecture, creating two multi-family buildings with one- to three-bedroom units. 40% of apartments will offer permanent supportive housing, pairing housing with case management and supportive services from ONE Neighborhood Builders, one of the state’s leading non-profit housing developers and community development corporations.

Crossroads Rhode Island, Foster Forward, and Family Service of Rhode Island will manage apartments dedicated to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, foster youth who have aged out of foster care programs, and families involved with or at risk of involvement with the Department of Children, Youth and Families, respectively. The remaining 60% of units will serve households earning 60% to 120% of the area median income.

The Center City Apartments project represents a significant step forward in providing quality affordable housing coupled with comprehensive social support. Its successful implementation will significantly impact the well-being and stability of many individuals and families in the community, exemplifying the Collaborative’s vision for sustainable community growth.
