Gender Neutral Bathrooms & Locker Rooms

October's Building Bites session explored how thoughtful design can make shared spaces more inclusive and functional for everyone.

Professional growth sits at the heart of Union’s culture. We believe that when people grow, communities flourish. Through our signature lunchtime learning series – Neighborhood Nibbles and Building Bites – we foster a vibrant environment of knowledge sharing and collaborative learning for the entire Union team. Each month, members of our leadership team and colleagues join forces with industry collaborators to lead engaging discussions on various aspects of Community Design and Sustainability, creating a dynamic space where expertise is shared, questions encouraged and discussion is lively.

October’s Building Bites discussion focused on Universal Bathrooms and Locker Rooms in schools, highlighting design strategies that prioritize safety, visibility, and accessibility. These spaces aim to create environments that are welcoming and adaptable to the needs of all users.

By looking at examples from schools and public institutions, we discussed the opportunities and challenges of implementing universal designs and how they contribute to more inclusive communities. Building Bites continues to offer a platform for exploring ideas that push design forward, ensuring our spaces are responsive to today’s evolving needs.
