Senior Associates Paul Attemann, Joe Haskett and Jeremy Lake have been promoted to Principal roles at Union.

Paul Attemann Principal at Union

Paul Attemann

Since joining Union as its first employee in 2002, Paul Attemann has remained a pillar of the firm and critical to its success. His deep expertise in the design of affordable communities is especially sought after by non-profit clients and community members throughout southern New England. In recent years Paul has established himself as a leading practitioner in the design of communities for adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). As Principal, Paul will deepen and expand his focus on workforce housing as well as on growing Union’s emphasis on “intentional communities” of all sorts. He is an active member of the Congress for the New Urbanism and served on the Zoning Board of Review in Warren, Rhode Island for 10 years. He is also the President of the Boston Estonian Society. Paul holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design.

As an architect who has committed his whole career to sustainability, adaptive reuse of existing buildings, and energy efficiency in construction, Joe Haskett represents a critical component of Union’s mission. His demonstrated expertise in Passive House and net-zero energy building design, adaptive reuse of historic buildings, and prefabricated building design have established Union as a leader in the field of building science and environmentally responsible design. As Principal, Haskett will focus primarily on deepening the firm’s commitment to, and expertise in, sustainable design and construction—with sights set on establishing Union as a leader in the global effort to build more efficiently and sustainably. Prior to joining Union in 2012, Joe was the founding principal of Providence-based Distill Studio and received international recognition for his design of Providence’s “Box Office”, a commercial office building constructed from recycled shipping containers. Joe was the first Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC) in the State of Rhode Island registered through the Passive House Institute U.S., and he’s a lifetime member of the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA) where he has served on the Board of Directors. Joe holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from The Ohio State University and a Master of Architecture, summa cum laude, from Rhode Island School of Design.

“Union has always believed the support and repair of communities is the work of many hands. So much of what Union has become and the positive impact we’ve made in the community, is due to the passion and expertise of our new Principals. Paul, Joe and Jeremy have been instrumental to our firm’s trajectory of sustained growth and key to the realization of our mission. We could not be more thrilled to share this news with our partners and clients.”
