Union is proud to share that West House II, our new senior housing community in Middletown, has been officially Phius CORE 2021 Design Certified, making it Rhode Island’s first passive house senior housing project.
Designed in partnership with the West House team, this milestone reflects a shared commitment to creating healthier, more efficient, and more resilient homes for older adults. Passive building strategies—including enhanced insulation, airtight construction, high-performance windows, and balanced ventilation—significantly reduce energy use while improving thermal comfort and indoor air quality.
West House II demonstrates how thoughtful design and sustainable principles can meaningfully advance quality of life for residents and set a new benchmark for senior housing across the state.
