Union Goes All-in for CNU33

Urbanists took over Providence—and we were so ready!

What a Congress! We hope your time at CNU33 was as enriching for you as it was for us—and that Providence revealed some of its magic along the way. The conversations that started at the Congress don’t end here. We’re excited to see how the ideas sparked at CNU33 continue to shape the future of our communities!

The Awards.

Four Union projects were recognized with Charter Awards this year, an outrageous experience that we’re still processing. Each project reflects a facet of our work we care deeply about—from revitalizing historic streetscapes to creating new models for affordable housing and resiliency planning.

🔗 more about our Charter Award-winning projects

With CNU33 on our home turf in Providence, our team was totally energized as we led conversations and sessions on net-zero neighborhoods, coastal climate adaptation, affordable housing across the rural-urban transect, the creative adaptive reuse of historic infrastructure and more.

The Conference.

  • 8 conference sessions. We led conversations on climate adaptation and decarbonization to missing middle housing, small-lot design and more
  • 4 sold-out tours. We guided attendees through projects and places we’ve worked on firsthand
  • 4 Charter Award Project Showcase presentations. Our project managers presented about our award-winning projects, Westminster Street Revitalization, Eastdale Main Street Village, Assessments and Climate Adaptations at the House of Seven Gables, and Cape Cod Resiliency: Missing Middle

We led multiple tours of our regional projects and were thrilled to share authentic insights and real-world examples of the urbanist principles we champion daily.

The Tours.

Walking the Work

We led four tours of our projects guiding attendees through diverse neighborhoods and explored affordable housing solutions and urban agriculture initiatives to showcasing cottage courts that demonstrate thoughtful infill development.

Celebrating with fellow placemakers at the opening party, pub crawl, dance parties, and closing party at our Providence office were welcome opportunities to connect with friends, colleagues and peers who inspire us.

The Parties!

After an opening party at District Park beer garden, a pub crawl across downtown, two packed dance parties that took over beloved LGBTQ+ clubs, a closing hang at the newly opened Track 15 … we threw open our doors for a closing party at our Providence office and what a blast to host a full house, wall to wall with familiar faces and new friends.

Many of us were members of the CNU local host committee and we worked diligently to showcase the best of our city and the innovative work happening here. May CNU33 have sparked new ideas and left you with lasting memories!
