Allandale Farm, straddling the Jamaica Plains/Brookline line, has cultivated its 105 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and farmland for over 150 years. As Boston’s oldest and largest working farm, it stands as both a testament to the city’s agricultural heritage and a cherished community asset that draws thousands of annual visitors.

Union’s design for a new Market Barn and Greenhouse represents a transformative chapter in Allandale’s story. Drawing inspiration from iconic New England barn architecture, the design preserves and enhances the unique rural character of this lightly developed corner of Boston. Through close collaboration with landscape architects, civil engineers, farmers, the farm’s owning family, and community members, we’re enhancing this beloved Boston landmark.

At the heart of the project is replacing the existing farmstand—a cramped space with significant accessibility barriers—with an expanded, all-season retail store. This thoughtfully designed space will showcase produce and products from both Allandale and neighboring food purveyors. By consolidating the retail greenhouses into a single, barrier-free structure, we’re creating an environment that prioritizes accessibility and ease of navigation while streamlining operations.

Beyond improving physical access, these facility upgrades will generate year-round employment opportunities and provide essential amenities for farm workers, ensuring Allandale Farm continues to thrive as both a working farm and community destination.
