Ivy Place: A Step Forward in Addressing the Housing Crisis

The overwhelming response to Ivy Place — 280+ applicants competing for just 13 deed-restricted affordable homes — underscores both progress and the persistent magnitude of the housing crisis.

Completed in the summer of 2024, Ivy Place is a thoughtfully designed urban infill project that introduced thirteen new affordable homes to East Providence. These deed-restricted units create permanent homeownership opportunities for first-time buyers. While this development marks a meaningful step forward, the overwhelming demand underscores the critical need for more accessible housing options.

Empowering Residents

Built on the long-vacant site of the historic Bomes Theater, Ivy Place breathes new life into a key Main Street corridor. Located steps from local businesses, City Hall, and community amenities, the project fosters economic growth and connectivity. A defining feature is the inclusion of four Live/Work townhouses along Taunton Avenue, seamlessly integrating homes and businesses to contribute to the vibrancy and economic vitality of the neighborhood.

Ivy Place is a welcome solution for thirteen individuals, couples, or families, but its completion also serves as a reminder: the need for equitable and attainable housing in our communities remains great.

“This is the concept we should be adopting on all commercial corridors.  They took a vacant lot, an eyesore, and turned it into a commercial space and housing for people who are just starting out.”
