Mashpee Commons Residential – from a Developer’s Perspective

September's Neighborhood Nibbles session featured a guest developer sharing insights on sustainable construction, affordability, and financial viability.

Professional growth sits at the heart of  Union’s culture. We believe that when people grow, communities flourish. Through our signature lunchtime learning series – Neighborhood Nibbles and Building Bites – we foster a vibrant environment of knowledge sharing and collaborative learning for the entire Union team. Each month, members of our leadership team and colleagues join forces with industry collaborators to lead engaging discussions on various aspects of Community Design and Sustainability, creating a dynamic space where expertise is shared, questions encouraged and discussion is lively.

At September’s Neighborhood Nibbles, veteran developer Jack Dawley, President of Northland Residential and longtime Union client, shared three decades of industry insights. Using the Union-designed Mashpee Commons residential project as a case study, Dawley explored the complex balance between sustainable construction, affordability, and financial viability. The discussion tackled some critical questions: How can developments achieve net-zero sustainability while ensuring deep affordability across income levels? And what are the economic realities of making these ambitious projects financially successful?”
