This masterplan, led by Robert A.M Stern Architects and Cooper Robertson & Partners, included home siting, home design, and public space design for a new neighborhood of 1,200 homes in Tuxedo, New York. Union Studio provided the district-level neighborhood planning, the site plan, and developed the design guidelines for this project.
Traditional hamlets, villages and neighborhoods were designed to respect the traditions of the local communities (including fabled Tuxedo Park) while creating the smallest environmental impact within this large mountainous site above the Hudson River. The result was a complex series of communities and town centers which were woven through the hills and around habitat corridors. The neighborhood, with its mix of uses and variety of home types, has been heralded as a model for ecologically sensitive and context sensitive design.
