Tremont Nail Factory

Wareham, Massachusetts
Date 2017
Size 7.2 acres
Client Town of Wareham

After the Town of Wareham, Massachusetts acquired the site of the former Tremont Nail Factory to protect the historic structures on site, the town sought to engage the community to create a plan for the redevelopment of the buildings and surrounding site.

Union worked in collaboration with town residents and representatives from the Town of Wareham, MassDevelopment, and our consultants to hold a series of public meetings and develop a vision plan for the area that incorporated resident input and feedback submitted through an online platform. A long-term vision was crafted that repurposes the existing buildings for a mix of commercial and public uses and includes new residential buildings and a sequence of public outdoor spaces. Throughout the process, ideas were vetted against practical considerations, such as regulatory needs and market realities, to create a final plan that would inspire investment in the site and promote the implementation of the plan.
