Our staff members are all committed students of the accumulated wisdom of history as it is expressed in traditional architecture and urban design. Our passion for building strong communities starts here in our studio, among our friends and colleagues.
Since joining Union Studio in 2010, Kara has provided her expertise on a variety of project types, including the Tiverton Public Library, the adaptive reuse of an historic courthouse in Bennington, VT, and as team leader for a winning competition for workforce housing on Cape Cod. She is currently serving as the project manager for the Newport Yachting Center Hotel in downtown Newport, RI. With her background in both architecture and fine arts, Kara takes great pride in the design aesthetics of a building, working closely with large project teams to shepherd a design concept through to completion. Prior to joining Union Studio, she interned for a healthcare design firm in Maryland, and she worked as a consultant to a Rhode Island-based architectural firm focused on residential projects.
Kara received both Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees from Roger Williams University. She frequently returns to her alma mater to serve as a guest critic at architectural studio design reviews.
Hometown: Gaithersburg, Maryland
Guilty Pleasure: Sneaking peaks at other people’s homes at night when they are all lit up. Just to look at interiors, I swear.
Pivotal childhood memory: Perfecting my sketches of cube shapes in math class while I should have been paying attention to how you actually calculate the volume of the cube.
Favorite piece of art/music/writing: Mid-century furniture
On a Sunday afternoon you will likely find me: Hunting for treasures in consignment shops and antique markets.
