Our staff members are all committed students of the accumulated wisdom of history as it is expressed in traditional architecture and urban design. Our passion for building strong communities starts here in our studio, among our friends and colleagues.
Joe brings over a decade of architectural experience to Union Studio, with expertise in residential, mixed-use, and religious facility design. He joined Union Studio in April 2015. In addition to working in architectural studios, Joe ran his own freelance business where he developed construction drawings, 3D presentation renderings, and performed state residential code review for registered architects. A native Rhode Islander, Joe spent time working in his family’s construction business based in South Kingstown. He serves on the Newport Historic District Commission.
Joe earned a Bachelor of Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Hometown: Wakefield, RI
Favorite place and why: Annecy, France. I was only there for 12 hours, but for that short period of time I was able to see architecture ranging from medieval to modern. I hope to go back there someday and hang out on Lake Annecy with its crystal clear water and French Alps back drop. Hopefully the next time will be more than 12 hours.
Guilty Pleasure: Grandma’s peanut butter fudge.
Pivotal childhood memory: Being allowed to ride my bike to school by myself. FREEDOM!!
Favorite RI oddity: Favorite oddity would be how RI is the smallest state that can be crossed through in about an hour, yet people in RI act like they are making a day trip whenever they have to go North of 138 or cross a bridge.
On a Sunday afternoon you will likely find me: renovating my home in Newport.
