Our staff members are all committed students of the accumulated wisdom of history as it is expressed in traditional architecture and urban design. Our passion for building strong communities starts here in our studio, among our friends and colleagues.
Helena is a specialist in universal design, accessible design, and home modifications. As mother to a child with special needs, Helena has focused her architectural design work on improving the quality of life of individuals living with disabilities and serious conditions and to their families through universal access, freedom, and mobility in their homes and neighborhoods. She has completed training in Universal Design and Home Modifications at the University of Buffalo IDEA Center.
Helena has worked on many of Union Studio’s affordable housing and prototype housing design projects since joining the firm in 2007. Recently, she founded Space2Thrive, an organization focused on ensuring that all physical spaces where children grow and live are designed for inclusion of children with and without special needs. Space2Thrive creates spaces and events where typical children and children living with disabilities /serious conditions and their families can connect in an environment of compassion and equality, where everyone learns from each other. Union Studio and Space2Thrive work collaboratively to design homes and communities where all residents can thrive and grow beyond limitations. Learn more.
