Hometown: Ithaca, NY
Favorite place and why: Florence, Italy – I fell in love with the city and my future wife while studying architecture there in ’94.
Philosophical idol: Sir Issac Newton – a towering genius and a tireless investigator of the natural world
Guilty Pleasure: A bottle of red wine and a freshly grilled gorgonzola cheeseburger on a late summer afternoon
Source of Pride: My two incredible boys and the great joy I see as they discover life.
Favorite moment in architectural history: The Renaissance succeeded in being a period of great invention in art, music and architecture without succumbing to the temptation to entirely jettison history. In fact, it was through a resurgence of learning based on classical sources that the renaissance succeeded in being wholly transformational while elevating the best of what came before it. As pressure mounts to move ever more quickly into the “future,” there is much to recommend the Renaissance principle of invention rooted in the collective wisdom of our past.
