Our staff members are all committed students of the accumulated wisdom of history as it is expressed in traditional architecture and urban design. Our passion for building strong communities starts here in our studio, among our friends and colleagues.
Dana has directed the evolving operations of Union Studio since its inception in 2001, overseeing human resources, marketing and financial management. She brings a wealth of experience in the effective organization and strategic growth of a small business, while also contributing a sense of humor and warmth that brightens the office on a daily basis. Before Union Studio was founded, Dana successfully launched the Providence office of eMedia Staffing, a regional talent agency representing graphic artists and web designers, making it the leading firm of its type in the state within one year of opening its doors. She graduated from Tufts University with a degree in clinical psychology.
Hometown: Buffalo, NY
Favorite place and why: Venice. It’s where Donald and I took our honeymoon and five years later, celebrated our anniversary. We pledged to go back every five years but then we had our son and put international travel on hold for a bit. To me it’s the most beautiful place for its mixture of exquisite architecture, melancholy and tranquility. I’ve only been in the fall, after the tourists have left, and the quiet of a city without cars is absolutely magical. Especially if you stay for awhile, not just the standard couple of days, but enough time to really settle in.
Guilty Pleasure: People Magazine and Us Weekly…poolside. There, I’ve said it.
Source of Pride: Participating in the growth and evolution of Donald Powers Architects and now, Union Studio. I joined Donald six months in and for the first six months, it was just us in a charming attic of a tiny cottage on the East Side. The floors were so slanted that if you picked your feet up, you’d roll across the office. It’s gratifying to look around now at the great group of people we work with and the body of work we’ve created.
On a Sunday afternoon you will likely find me: Taking a nap. Sunday siesta = heaven.
A word to the wise: Changing your mind can change your life. I even have that on a pillow.
